Since Ryan is 1, I am able to put him in a front facing car seat...which is a million times better!! He loves looking out the window, and I love and I can hand him things without dislocating my shoulder trying to get it to him.
Look at him with his flag, what a cutie! I know that turning him front-facing is really appealing because like you said, it's so much easier to reach him! But did you know that he is 5 times safer rear-facing? The American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) is now recommending rear-facing until at least 2 years old due to the dangers of front-facing a young child! Their spine isn't developed all the way and can separate from their skull in an accident. YIKES!
Here is a link from the AAP: http://www.aap.org/advocacy/releases/carseat2011.htm
And this one shows you crash test footage! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8mFsXNXOLw
PS - There are no reported leg injuries due to rear-facing, but lots of spinal injuries (and deaths!) due to front-facing :(
Thank you for caring enough to read this! As caring mom's, we need to help spread the word on how to keep our children safe :o)
